Get Started Walking
Are looking for a program that can get you physically fit? Why not start with walking. There is nothing that works better for a beginner than a walking program. You just need some comfortable clothes and a well fitted pair of walking shoes. There are any number of places you can walk…a treadmill, the park, a mall, a walking path and these are just a few locations.
Walk with your gaze focused ahead and your back straight. Try to avoid looking down while you are walking. Your first week should consist of 15 minute sessions. Five times a week is a good start. If you are not able to complete the 15 minute sessions the first week, do not be concerned. The next week will be easier and the week after that will be easier.
The second week, increase your walking time by 5 minutes to 20 minutes. Do a five minute warm up walk and try to increase your speed to a moderate pace to improve your aerobic benefits. Try to walk the whole 20 minutes, slowing down if necessary. You should be able to carry on a conversation without being out of breath. Adding abdominal core exercises will also be helpful. You can finish your walk with 5 minutes of stretching exercises. This is also a good time to evaluate the fit and the comfort of your shoes.
Adding five minutes to your time for each of the next 2 weeks will be next. This should bring your walking time up to 30 minutes. You should be walking a 15 to 20 minute mile. A nice steady pace is good for aerobic benefit and you can add more time in future weeks as you feel necessary. There is no limit in the amount of time you can walk.
Walking is one of the easiest ways to get fit and lose weight. It is something anyone can do and it can be quite enjoyable. Besides being an exercise that anyone can do, walking is an activity that can also keep your mind healthy. If you are looking for a fitness plan, why not begin a walking program today.
